A highway town that still sets a table
Most people meet Coffs as a break on the Pacific Highway. Fair if you only have forty minutes. A waste if you wanted the banana-coast pantry. The useful walk sits near the harbour and the compact centre — a walking ticket should name kitchens and sit you down. A circuit of lookouts is landscape.
Bananas, blueberries and other mid-north fruit still move through local stalls when the calendar says so. Check it. A Tuesday assumption is how you photograph empty trestles. Read markets for the general contract: taste, sit, do not treat produce as a backdrop.
Destination NSW will sell the jetty and the mascot. Use the maps for parking. Use the kitchen for whether the fish is the point. This desk will not invent a Coffs package price or a “#1 banana tour”.
Harbour fish is a morning job
Coffs still lands fish. A harbour lunch that names the species is the coastal plate. A tired view platter at 3pm after a waterfall drive is leftovers with a railing. Read seafood and keep the ice honest.
If you are driving through from Sydney or Brisbane, pick one sit-down meal and one produce stop. Stacking a waterfall, a mascot, a jetty walk and a “food tour” before 2pm is how someone eats a service-station sandwich and calls it the mid-north.

When to stay instead of passing through
Stay if you want a morning stall and a harbour dinner. Pass through if the bed is already booked in Port or Byron. A same-day dash from either neighbour is a highway day, not a tasting day.

If you came expecting Noosa density, reset: Coffs is a working regional city with a tourist jetty. If you came expecting empty countryside, reset again: the highway is loud and the weekends are busy.
